Microsoft 365 Outage: What Happened and How It Impacted Users Worldwide on November 25, 2024
On November 25, 2024, Microsoft 365 services, including Outlook and Teams, experienced a significant outage, disrupting email and calendar functionalities for users across Europe and the United States. The issue began around 7:30 AM UK time, with over 800 reports at its peak on Downdetector.co.uk.
Users attempting to access Outlook encountered error messages stating, "Your request can't be completed right now." Similarly, functionalities within Microsoft Teams' calendar were affected. Microsoft acknowledged the issue, stating, "We're investigating an issue impacting users attempting to access Exchange Online or functionality within Microsoft Teams calendar."
By mid-morning, reports of issues in the UK had decreased to fewer than 400, indicating progress toward resolution. However, users in the US began reporting similar problems, suggesting the outage's impact was shifting geographically.
This incident follows a previous Microsoft outage in July 2024, which was attributed to a third-party software update from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. The July outage caused global disruptions, affecting various services and industries.
